Hockey for Heroes 2020 Cancelled Due to Coronavirus

Out of an abundance of caution, the Navy Youth Hockey Board of Directors has decided to CANCEL the upcoming Hockey for Heroes event, scheduled for Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15. There are simply too many warnings about the health risks associated with large public gatherings to justify the risk of hosting the event this weekend.

We are extraordinarily disappointed to be making this decision but feel it is prudent to put this event off until the current health crisis has passed. Hockey for Heroes has become one of the most popular, remarkable and meaningful hockey events in the region and we were prepared to make this one even better than ever! Unfortunately this does not appear to be the time to press-on. We will continue to monitor the state of the public health situation and consider potential alternatives for a future event.

We know many of you have already expended money for travel, event fees and HFH fundraising efforts. We do not have a current plan or ability to refund the travel costs but if you would like a refund of your team fees please ask - we will do our best to accommodate any/all requests.

Alternatively, if you are inclined to allow us to keep those fees we will push forward with the fundraising elements of the event and share the proceeds as planned with our many veteran’s organization beneficiaries. All t-shirts will be delivered to your team managers, and we are planning a virtual silent auction to go live hopefully this weekend. Fundraising pages will remain open for a virtual version of Hockey for Heroes.

As disappointing as this decision is, we appreciate your understanding and support as we prioritize the health and safety of our extended hockey community and families. Please pass the word along to your friends who might have been planning to attend and with any luck we will all be back on the ice soon. Please remember to wash your hands, tap sticks and stay calm.

Go Navy!
